Newmarket Racing Tips: Cambridgeshire Meeting 2025 Day 2
I have a couple of queries regarding Hey Boo, not least she might end up best at shorter than a mile (half-sister Juniper Berries best at sprint trips, we’ll see) but I don’t think she’s been given the chance to fulfil the potential she showed in the Fred Darling as yet, and at 16s I’ll take chance on ground she should enjoy.
Newmarket Racing Tips: Hey Boo (1:15)
Winner of her first two starts back on the all-weather, she stepped up considerably on that to run second in the Fred Darling at Newbury and it isn’t as if that’s worked out badly, winner Duty First hitting the minor placing behind Lake Victoria in the Irish 1000 Guineas and third Time For Sandals winning the Commonwealth Cup.
She ran pretty much to that form when beaten a shade over five lengths in the 1000 Guineas and then we didn’t see her again until well held in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown where a combination of slower ground and needing the run saw her finish down the field, but she made a move into things 2f out before getting tired, and looked like she retained her ability.
With that under her belt, and better ground here much more to her liking, I think she’s worth another try. Interesting the hood has come off after a slow start at Sandown, perhaps they think she doesn’t need it anymore. That could work either way and makes her something of a win-or-bust bet rather than an each-way one, but I wouldn’t discount her.
Newmarket Racing Tips: Chorus (1:50)
Wide open, but at 20s and bigger I’d be happy to throw a few quid at Chorus here. She clearly didn’t give her running behind today’s likely favourite Spirited Style (who herself has a bit to prove after a below-par effort last time) in the Aphrodite on the July Course earlier in the year but it was better in the G3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork and then better again when sixth in the Park Hill at Doncaster last time where she paid the price for trying to force the pace with winner Santorini Star.
She was weakening out of things late on but still putting in a good shift, her best for some time, and shaping better than the bare result. A drop back to 12f here is probably in her favour and whilst she might not want the ground to get too quick (although she has winning form on good to form ground) there’s more than enough in the way of posiitves to get involved.
Newmarket Racing Tips: Hymmbook (4:45)
Hymmbook looks an interesting contender at this intermediate 9f trip, with 10f on soft ground at Ascot last time proving too much of a test, but his form on quick ground at around a mile from earlier in the year giving him a fair chance of staying this trip. In fact, he looked very much at home over Nottingham’s 1m½f trip when making all and running on strongly to score there back in May, and he went down fighting when beaten a nose by Knight’s Gold at Ascot on his next start, rallying well late and may well have got back up in a stride or two.
He’d likely have needed his recent Ascot run after having August off in any case, and should strip a lot fitter here. His high draw in stall 13 means he can come over (stalls are in the centre today) and grab the nearside rail should Rab Havlin so wish, and he still looks fairly treated.
