Birthday Boy Dave Chisnall speaks with Chizzy on location in Amsterdam ahead of facing Nathan Aspinall in the World Series this weekend. Read his exclusive thoughts for kwiff ahead of this week’s latest arrers.
Dave Chisnall: World Series 2025 Preview
I had two good days in Hildesheim, showing some good scoring to get to the Last 16 on Tuesday and going out to my good pal Bradley Brooks. Despite a couple of 12-dart legs along the way I lost 6-4 and he’s a very good player. He’s only 25 and he’s got a big career ahead of him.
On Wednesday, I bumped into Dominik Gruellich who was on top form. I lost 6-0 with him averaging 110 and when you bump into people playing that well there’s not a lot you can do. I missed a couple of doubles along the way, but it just wasn’t my day. The same happened on last weekend’s Euro Tour.
I heard the commentators reminding me that I’ve gone out in the second row on five successive Euro Tours now, but I actually thought I played well against Ryan (Searle) who brought his A Game. That’s the best he’s played on TV in a while, averaging 103 to go through 6-4. You need a bit of luck and it’s been evading me this season. I’ll be careful to not break any mirrors and walk under any ladders this week in Holland!
Dave Chisnall: Birthday Boy
I’m looking forward to playing Nathan Aspinall on Saturday in Amsterdam. Nathan’s a good friend of mine and we’ve known each other forever. It’s a bit of a bittersweet week as it’s my birthday today and there’s not a lot going on! A lot has changed in the world of darts from 20 years ago and the boys are a lot quieter.
It will be a case of get up, go and get some food, and go and have a practice at the venue later. I’m 45 now and when you see the players like Bradley and Dominik playing at this level, at half my age, it’s a reminder to keep at it and keep practicing. The young kids coming through are better than ever – just look at our World Champion who’s still a teenager!
Dave Chisnall: World Series
For some reason, I seem to do alright when I play people I’m more comfortable with and have a good record playing against mates more than I probably do playing people I’m less familiar with. Nathan and I will both really want to beat each other, but there’s no hard feelings towards the winner from either of us after the game. My scoring was much better in the week on the Pro Tour and if I land a few doubles, I’ll be dangerous. The bookies have Nathan a big favourite but I think it’s more like a toss of a coin – fingers crossed it goes my way on Saturday.
