Group 1 winning jockey Hector Crouch remains two clear at the top of the All Weather Jockeys Championship, and speaks to kwiff as the flat season draws ever closer.
Hector Crouch: Still Trying
It’s been a quiet week for me personally, with just ten rides, but a nice couple of winners. I picked up a spare for Darryl Holland (that won at 25/1 on Saturday at Chelmsford) and Time Tested who did it nicely back at the same venue on Thursday. There have been a couple of seconds in there, but I’d like to think I’m riding pretty well but just could do with a few more rides.
I’m two clear at the top of the All Weather Jockeys’ Championship but it will be hard to keep up with Billy (Loughnane) and Luke (Morris) due to the volume of their rides. Billy had 5 rides at Wolverhampton today and four there again tomorrow, but we’ll keep trying! The horse of Michael Bell’s did it nicely and I think Time Tested could be a nice handicapper for connections. Fingers crossed there’s a few more winners over the weekend.
Hector Crouch: Friday Rides
Captain Parma (Southwell 4:20)
I ride Captain Parma in the Southwell opener, who should take all the beating in what looks a winnable maiden. He’s a well-bred sort, who I’ve sat on at the yard and he should be capable of winning a race at this level. The James Owen yard continue in good nick, and I’d be disappointed if he was unable to make a winning debut.
Overnight Oats (Southwell 20:30)
My other ride is the consistent Overnight Oats (20:30) who bids to get back to winning ways after a disaster of a trip to Newcastle last week. He got bumped going down to the start by the favourite and was lit up as a result, being too keen and losing all chance leaving the stalls.
I think if you put a line through that run then he still remain in good form, and remains on an upward curve. I think he’s priced on the last run at Newcastle, but I would ignore that and judge him on his former runs. He’s a dual course winner here (once over course and distance) and should go well at Southwell once more.
Hector Crouch: Saturday Rides
Come on John (Wolverhampton 6.30)
Come on John was part of a quick-fire double for James Owen and Deva Racing the other week at Wolverhampton and bids to follow-up over course and distance there again on Saturday. He came from last to first to win that day and loves a strong pace to run at. Providing he gets a similar sort of strong gallop, he’ll be hard to deny from a 4lb rise at the weights.
