Dave ‘Chizzy’ Chisnall is back with kwiff, looking back at last weekend’s UK Open 2025 from Minehead, and previews this weekend’s Euro Tour action from Wieze.
Dave ‘Chizzy’ Chisnall: Belgium Bound in Pursuit of Further Euro Tour Success
The UK Open was another disappointing week, with this season running parallel to 12 months ago when unable to find any real form in the first few months of the year. I had to dig in to beat Ricky (Evans) in the first game, but was the master of my own downfall against Krzysztof Ratajski – who has been a bit of a bogey player to me in the last year or so.
I lost 10-8 but the damage was done just before the second break, when he reeled off some quick-fire legs and raced into a 7-3 lead. In a race to ten it’s just so hard to get back, and when you’re missing doubles the pressure just starts to build.
Averages of 85 and 90 just aren’t good enough at this level, and I’ve got to sort it out. The practice board is getting plenty of hours, and everything clicks there – I’m just struggling to translate it onto the stage. The first dart is going in too low at the Treble 20, which makes it difficult, and you then end up switching and going round the board.
Chizzy Chisnall: Belgium Bound
Ryan Joyce beat us here 6-5 in the opening round, when I was struggling a bit around this time last year, so I’ll be hoping for better luck when me and Roger get the Eurotunnel on Friday. We need to earn a few quid to stop us sliding down the rankings – down to Number 9 after a poor run. The most important thing is to stay in the top 16 in the world, which is my short term aim, and then win something by the end of April.
It was March last year when I won Players Championship 6, defeating Ross Smith in the final, and then bagged a Euro Tour event not so long after. I know it will come, it’s just a matter of patience at this point. Once it clicks, I’ll be fine. And if you win something early it just takes the pressure off for the rest of the season a bit.
Chizzy Chisnall: Belgian Darts Open 2025
There are no easy games at this level, and I’m not one for looking at draws, but if I were to get to the final, I’ll have to take some scalps along the way. I’m playing the winner of Matthew Dennant and Pikachu in the first game, before the potential winner of Luke Littler and Gary Anderson, and then the likes of Wade/Dobey/MVG in the semis. It’s no easy task. The standard is top class, but that’s the name of the game and I’ll be hoping to get my hands on that trophy come Sunday.
Chizzy Chisnall: Lucky Liverpool
I need to follow Liverpool’s lead and start winning games that they have absolutely no right to. I watched the PSG game midweek, and I’ve no idea how PSG didn’t score. Allison had the best game of his career in a Liverpool shirt – no Reds goalkeeper has made more saves in a Champions League shirt – and he really saved our bacon. Unless we come out negative and play for a draw, I can’t see them beating us at Anfield. The treble is still on! Speak soon! Chiz x
