Dave Chisnall is back talking to kwiff about the start of the new 2025 PDC season and kicks-off a huge year of darts by facing Cam Menzies at tonight’s Winmau World Masters 2025.
Dave Chisnall: Huge Weekend in MK for Winmau World Masters 2025
I’ve spoken to your fella from kwiff before and said how much I’m looking forward to getting the new season underway, and whilst I’m not normally one who gets excited for much, I am for this. Things ended really tamely last year, with things going horrible wrong at The Grand Slam, and then the sudden death defeat at the Worlds. Those things hurt you, and you can do one of two things can’t you – you mope about and get upset over, or try and do something about it.
Winmau World Masters 2025: Brand New Season
The practice board has taken a hammering this last few weeks and I’m itching to get back on the road and get into the routine again. The first few are difficult because you get so used to sleeping in your own bed, and being at home with the missus and the kids.
World Masters 2025: Life on the Road
And that’s the most difficult bit of the life of a professional darts player to be honest. Chucking isn’t a problem, but getting your mind right for being away, and travelling and the routine of hotels and travel is, and mentally it’s something you deal with easier as you get older.
The flip side of that is that when it goes wrong it feels like a bit of a waste of time – travelling all day to get to a tournament and exit in the first round can be a tough pill to swallow. But that’s the nature of the beast, and I wouldn’t be swapping this life for anything. I understand I’m very lucky to be doing what I do for a living.
Dave Chisnall: Winmau World Masters 2025
Cam Menzies is the first port of call, and is someone I’ve got a good record against. Cam has done well since getting his card but I’m hopeful I’ve done enough on the practice board the last few weeks to make it through.
I played brilliant when beating him at The Grand Prix back in October, so will be hoping for a repeat of that please! I think I whitewashed him that day – he had just two darts at a double the entire game – so hopefully my scoring is on song to ensure I can make it pretty comfortable for myself.
World Masters 2025: Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes has been good to me too, I played well here last year, and it’s easy to get home on the train. I went out to Michael Van Gerwen in the quarter-final of the UK Open here – Michael was unlucky to lose to an in-form Steve Bunting in the final – and I was a bit unlucky to bump into him in top form that day. Hopefully I can get on stage more than once this weekend.
My performances weren’t great on TV last year – a lot of that is due to confidence and nerves – so I’m hoping that I can kick-off this season with some nice wins and get the ball rolling. I know a couple of decent runs early would take a bit of pressure off, and then who knows? Maybe that first TV tournament might be in sight for 2025. I’ll keep trying. Take it easy, and thanks for reading!
