Confirmed candidates for Premier League darts line-up
Newly-crowned PDC World Champion Luke Littler will be back in Premier League action as the 17-year-old looks to defend the crown he won for the first time last year.
The 17-venue extravaganza gets underway in Belfast on February 6 and we have the lowdown on the eight-man field.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Luke Littler
Luke Littler was already the biggest name in darts and the incredible rise of the 17-year-old was complete when “The Nuke” picked up his first World Championship title at Alexandra Palace at the turn of the year.
The Warrington teenager produced an incredible performance to win the Premier League last season and he will no doubt be expected to mount a successful defence of his title.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Luke Humphries
Luke Humphries has won the World Championship, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals in a fantastic two years of competition, while Cool Hand Luke was also beaten in last year’s Premier League final.
The Newbury arrowsmith is back to try and turn the tables on Littler, who got the better of him by a score of 11-7 in last year’s final at London’s O2 Arena.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Michael Van Gerwen
Once the dominant force in darts, Michael van Gerwen now faces a massive battle to regain his position at the summit of the sport.
Mighty Mike hasn’t won a ranked televised event since the 2022 Players Championship Finals, but the Dutch ace was still good enough to reach the final of this year’s World Championship.
No player in this season’s field can get close to Van Gerwen’s seven Premier League titles so far.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Rob Cross
World champion on his debut in the event in 2018, a World Matchplay king and two-time Players Championship Finals winner, Rob Cross also makes the eight.
Perhaps, Voltage has struggled to consistently produce his best form in the last couple of seasons, but the Kent arrowsmith remains a potent threat.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Stephen Bunting
Stephen Bunting is on the rise and the crowd favourite is back in the Premier League 10 years after his first and only appearance in 2015.
The Bullet claimed the Masters title last season and will be targeting more success after reaching the World Championship semi-finals earlier this month.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Gerwyn Price
Once a rising force in darts, Gerwyn Price is a prolific winner who has claimed a World Championship title as well as a World Grand Prix crown and three Grand Slam trophies.
The Iceman has struggled to produce his best form consistently in the Premier League over the years, but the Welshman did reach the final of this tournament two years ago.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Nathan Aspinall
Nathan Aspinall has struggled to produce his best over the last 18 months, but “The Asp” is a former UK Open and World Matchplay champion and his “Mr Brightside” walk-on tune will no doubt delight Premier League fans around Europe.
Premier League Darts Line-Up: Chris Dobey
Perhaps a slight surprise inclusion in this year’s line-up, but it’s hard to ignore the scoring power and floor performances of Chris Dobey.
This year’s World Championship semi-finalist could finish only seventh in his sole previous Premier League appearance but Hollywood will be looking to play a leading role this time around.
